It is officially 1 year since the blog started!!!  AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.  Anyways as this this a momentous occasion I decided what other way to celebrate one year of blogging than to rank cattle breeds according to the alphabet.  No, I'm not kidding. (Or am I?) Fun fact, there are over 1000 breeds of cattle that are recognized in the world today. So, I'm going to pick my favorite one from each letter the alphabet from A-Z. And we're gonna look at some cuties today! Happy 1 year anniversary to us indeed.  1. Aberdeen Angus (from Scotland) Fact about this cutie here: While the Aberdeen Angus in the UK is not at risk, the original Native Aberdeen Angus- is listed by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust as 'at risk'.  2. Bachaur cattle (from India) Fact about this cutie here: This cattle was widely popular in Bihar during the days of the (TW: COLONIZATION REFERNCE) English East India Company. 3. Cachena (Portugal and Spain) Fact about these cuties: Cachena cattle are one of ...

The Clone Wars

I can't believe we've reached here. Maybe this is the darkest timeline. It's fun because I wasn't really planning on posting anything and was working on a future post when I got possessed with the need to write this instead (my phone died and I couldn't research the other post's topic).  There is a limit. You can go too far.  Some media is oversaturated.  That perhaps the least threatening sentence I've written but bear with me.  Gah. As someone who loves oversaturation because it means there's always something to watch or read...we've hit a dead end of sorts. This is not me saying 'omg creativity and originality is dead'. Because that would be false, especially in current times.  No, this is me saying that the copycats are creating a cloning paradox so big that's its getting harder to ignore it. Every original idea from yesterday or 20 years ago is unfortunately getting its revisionist version today, as I'm typing this sentence out. ...

Sports, Misogyny and WAGs

People are getting a little too comfortable treating women like shit. This has been the case for decades upon decades, in all walks of life and in all fields of interest. Sports is no exception.  Maybe because it is considered a activity that is predominantly geared towards men or maybe because like all things hating on women has become a default hobby that society never quite unlearned.  'Women do not like sports.' This is obviously a false statement and while it could apply to a category of women, one size does not fit all. However, this notion or opinion or fact if you ask some people, has been so deeply ingrained into our minds that it has become a gender stereotype at this point. Just like women are expected to cook and clean and be delicate, we also have to be clueless and not understand/engage in any 'male-related' activities. Thankfully, this too, like the other ideas have changed and somewhat improved with time.  Now, instead of being told women cannot like spo...

PR feels disingenuous

What the title said.  These days everything we consume is promoted to us, heavily. Whether it's a movie, book, food item, subscription service, it's all marketed in a way for higher sales.  Nothing inherently wrong with that, it's to make profit and marketing when done right, can be extremely effective or just entertaining to watch unfold. However that may not always be the case.  PR, or Promotional Marketing is done in n number of ways for n number of products. Because let's face it, in the era of technology and the internet, word of mouth and a reputed review isn't gonna do the trick anymore. It's when this new form of marketing, the social media exposure or 'tiktokification' of a brand/product comes in that it starts to go sideways. See, the social media virality formula is typically random. It is always a silly or wholesome idea that people end up finding funny. Something that is not done with the purpose of internet fame but rather a spur-of-the-mom...

Getting Theatrical

I recently watched a movie in the theatre and decided immediately after that to make a post.  You could say the ghost of this blog haunted me with tauntings of a new post. I like theatres. Personally, the older their history the better because beautiful architecture is just nomnomnom. But in general watching movies in a theatre just enhances the experience in tenfold compared to watching it at home on a smaller screen. It's just not as immersive and I don't feel like I'm there with the characters or as I like to word it 'It doesn't feel like I ate the movie'.  I went to watch Twisters because a) I had heard good things about it, b) I wanted to watch a disaster movie on the big screen at least once after spending 90% of my childhood watching it on a TV and c) It seemed like a good way to entertain my cousin (you got a shout-out).  Theatres are just interesting places to me in general because it kind of draws parallels to the airport to me. You're here for one...

Streaming Sucks

Want to know more?  Just pay an extra fee of (insert currency of choice here) and enjoy! Streaming sucks.  And I think though this has been the case since the beginning, it's only been more apparent in the recent years. From increasing prices to cancelling promising shows to not paying actors and writers and staff (the recent SAG-AFTRA strike being a clear example) , it's clear that whatever good that the online streaming platforms ever brought, public opinion is dwindling.  It's strange that that's what brought me to the obvious conclusion that I'm sure most people are already aware of: streaming has become the new cable. And if it hasn't, then it's pretty close to becoming it.  This makes (in my opinion), all the outrage about the big three (Netflix, Amazon and Hulu) and it's strange policies and prices hikes all the more funny because that's exactly what people complained about during the era of cable TV. Now that we've turned to online sites...

Heeramandi And It's 14-year Long Disappointment

It seems that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made a personal history for giving me hope and promptly taking it away a new habit.  My relationship with this show though not as tumultuous as the creator's, is one that lasted somewhere upto the two years. I wasn't a super fan of Bhansali's by any means but when I heard that he was producing a project featuring prominent actresses set in an older India, I was excited. It was at a time where only a few hindi movies peaked by interest and ones that did weren't mainstream, mass-produced, industry blockbusters. So, naturally, I was excited for a possible return to good film making and a decent plot. Bhansali was and is in my opinion a romantic. He sees only the love and beauty in his stories which leads to an inherently cheesy and rose-colored depiction in his period films. But still one could admit that they were flawed with still enjoying them for the grand spectacle they were. A cinematic and glamorized version with the dramatics...
